Two of Hong Kong’s most popular museums
There are about 12 museums in Hong Kong, but these two are conveniently located, so they are visited by many tourists.
Hong Kong Space Museum
The Hong Kong Space Museum is shaped like half a golf ball. All the most interesting exhibits in the museum are presented in two halls. In the first hall, you will learn a lot about the history of space and the gradual development of space. In the second hall you will learn about astronomy. You will learn everything about astronomy! Also in the exhibition halls you will find such additions as documentaries, the duration of which is forty minutes, fragments of planets and many more interesting things. This museum will help you to plunge into the cosmic world and give you a lot of unforgettable impressions.

At night, you can get a great look at the starry sky, as the planetarium at the Hong Kong Space Museum is one of the best planetariums in the whole world. You will also be able to see various celestial shows.
The museum itself is divided into two wings. The first is the east wing, the second is the west wing. In the west wing you can enjoy watching various interesting movies. But these are not just movies. These are movies in IMAX format. You sit in an armchair, put on headphones and glasses. And it serves as a screen… what do you think? No, you won’t guess, the ceiling! An ordinary ceiling!
The museum houses two thematic exhibitions. The Hall of Space Science and the Hall of Astronomy. The exhibits presented in the astronomy hall tell about the history of space development and its exploration. The advantage of the exhibition is that you can touch and feel all the exhibits with your own hands. You can even control a real gyroscope yourself. You can also ride an attraction and feel like an astronaut. Can you imagine?! A real astronaut! Children will really like this museum. Adults will also be delighted! This is not a museum – this is the real Universe! Be sure to visit this museum! You will learn a lot of new and interesting things! Have a good trip and unforgettable impressions! May your day at the Space Museum be magical.
Hong Kong Historical Museum
The Hong Kong History Museum is located here, not far from Tsim Sha Tsui and was established in 1975. It is currently considered one of the most famous in Hong Kong. This museum contains mainly archaeological exhibits that can tell a lot about the history of this small state. Ethnographic and historical exhibits can also be found here. It is worth paying special attention to the exhibition “The History of Hong Kong”. It was opened in 2001 and covers an area of approximately 7000 sq.m. The exhibition allows museum visitors to get acquainted with many interesting exhibits and immerse themselves in the history of Hong Kong and South Asia.

The architecture of the museum is quite unusual. It was designed by E. Werner Johnson and is now equipped with the latest technology. Together with the Science Museum, it forms one complex. Both buildings match each other in design and, in particular, in color.
The historical museum has more than one building. The main building is located on Chatham Road South, where the museum moved in 1998. Its branches currently include the Hong Kong Coastal Defense Museum, the Lei Cheng Yuk Han Tomb Museum, the Sun Yat-sen Museum, the Folk Art Museum and the exhibition gallery on the Alexander Grantham fire ship.
Visiting the Hong Kong Historical Museum, you can see how it gradually turned from a small village into a modern city-state. The museum displays household items of the first inhabitants of Hong Kong, furniture, clothing and much more. You can also see what Hong Kong has become now: a huge number of tall and mighty skyscrapers, shopping malls and various modes of transport.
It is worth paying special attention to how Hong Kong was shown in the museum during the difficult war years. There are special small cinemas where you can see what the state was like at all times, including during various wars.
Many tourists like a small street in Hong Kong the most, which many usually visit at the very end. There are pawnshops, real shops where you can buy various medicinal herbs, as well as cafes where you can drink a cup of fragrant tea.
In general, in the historical museum of Hong Kong, you can fully get acquainted with the history of this small but much-experienced state. The abundance of exhibits pleasantly surprises visitors, and small cinemas perfectly recreate a particular era.
