When planning your vacation, everyone first of all thinks about which country to visit. You can’t go wrong if you go on vacation to Hong Kong. Especially in summer, because you can enjoy the beaches of Hong Kong!
Hong Kong is an administrative region of China. It is popularly known as Asian New York, as there are many skyscrapers in the city. Hong Kong is divided into 3 parts: Hong Kong Island itself, the New Territories, and the Kowloon Peninsula. Hong Kong is surrounded by the South China Sea. It’s cool in Hong Kong in winter, about +15 degrees Celsius, so if you want to visit the world-famous beaches, then you need to go on a trip in the summer, when it’s really hot here.
Hong Kong has a long coastline that has numerous coves and beaches. Since Hong Kong has a mountainous landscape, most beaches and coves are protected from all sides by mountains, as a result, there are practically no large waves there, as a result of which the beaches are suitable for swimming. More beaches are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Services, Leisure and Culture and are officially declared publicly accessible. Some beaches are privately owned or unpublished, but nevertheless also accessible to vacationers. With the growth of urbanization and the development of the urban district, the water on many beaches began to become polluted, and these beaches were closed. But, there are still a considerable number of places on the coast where the water remains crystal clear.
Currently, the Department of Services, Leisure and Culture manages about 45 beaches, 12 of them are located on Hong Kong Island and the southern part of the Coluong Peninsula, the rest are in New Territories, including remote islands.

Golden Beach
This is the largest beach in the New Territories, with an area of 78,500 square meters and a length of 545 meters. This is the first artificial beach in Hong Kong. It is a second-class beach, which means that it has an acceptable water quality. This beach is unique because there is a volleyball court on its territory. Golden Beach is surrounded by a well–developed infrastructure – hotels, numerous kiosks, shopping malls, restaurants. There are lifeguards on duty at the beach, so you don’t have to worry about your life. There are several buses running to this beach every day, for example, 53, 61M, 962, and buses K51 and K53 can be reached from the metro.
Turtle Cove
The beach is located in the southeast of Hong Kong Island. It is covered with fine white sand and has a relatively small size. This is a first class beach, which means that the water near the beach is very clean, almost transparent. The beach is small, only about 70 meters long. From the side of the open sea, the waters of the beach are fenced with a special net, which serves as protection from sharks. Professional lifeguards are on duty throughout the beach during the day. This beach is one of the most equipped: there are changing cabins, toilets, showers, equipped playgrounds, barbecue areas. Due to the above facts, Turtle Cove beach is rightfully considered one of the best “baby beaches”. Perhaps the only drawback is that there is a busy motorway not far from the beach, about 50 meters away. You can get to this beach by buses No. 14 and 314, as well as minibuses No. 16A, 16X and 16M to the Turtle Cove stop, then walk towards the sea for about 300-400 meters.

Big Wave Bay
Big Wave Bay Beach is also located in the southeast of Hong Kong on the coast of Big Wave Bay. The water quality here is not the best, but despite this, the beach is very popular. During the season, a large number of tourists come here. This beach is an official surfing beach, but high waves only occur here during certain months of the year. Big Wave Bay beach is equipped with changing rooms, toilets, showers, shops and parking for cars are located around it. Near the beach, you can find stones with preserved prehistoric inscriptions. You can get to the beach by bus number 9, which runs only at certain times. You can also take the subway to Chai Wan station, which is located 3 kilometers from the beach.
Repulse Bay
The most famous and popular beach in Hong Kong is Repulse Bay Beach. This beach is located in one of the most picturesque areas on the northern coast of Repulse Bay. Repulse Bay beach is large, both in length and width. There are a huge number of hotels, shopping malls, cafes and supermarkets in the vicinity of the beach, there is an equipped parking lot. There is also a barbecue area in the shade of the trees, and there is a volleyball court and playgrounds on the beach itself. Tai Tam National Park is located near the coast. Buses of the following routes run to this beach: 6, 6A, 6X, 63, 66, 73, 260 and 973, as well as minibuses Nos. 40X, 40 and 52.
Tong Fuk
One of the free beaches on Lantau Island is Tong Fuk Beach. The beach is protected from the open sea by an anti-shark net, and rescuers are on duty daily. This beach is relatively small, about 300 meters long and 30 meters wide. Due to its inaccessibility, Tong Fuk Beach is usually sparsely populated, as a result, it is perfect for those people who do not like large crowds. The beach is equipped with showers, toilets, changing rooms. You can get to this beach by bus number 4 to the Tong Fuk Bus Terminus stop. It takes about 700 meters to walk from the bus stop to the beach.
Lower Cheung Sha
The beach is a wide strip of sand, which is surrounded by a park on one side and a crystal clear sea on the other. It is located in the west of the New Territories, in the southeast of Lantau Island. This beach is quite large in size: 1200 meters long and 40 meters wide. Lower Cheung Sha Beach is relatively little-visited and clean enough. During the bathing season, lifeguards are on duty on the shore. The beach is equipped with changing cabins, toilets and showers. There is a bus number 4 to the nearby Tong Fuk Bus Terminus stop. The beach is about 2.5 kilometers from this stop.
When going on vacation to the beaches of Hong Kong, it should be remembered that it is forbidden to sunbathe on them in the nude or in the absence of an upper part of a swimsuit for women. It is not recommended to visit beaches after heavy rains, as they can be heavily littered and the water cloudy. All the beaches of Hong Kong are covered with fine light sand, which looks almost white in the sun. In order for the rest not to be marred by any incidents, it is necessary to observe and honor the traditions and laws of the host country.
